Comparisons & Commendations

2 Corinthians 10:12

Oh, don’t worry, I wouldn’t dare say that I am as wonderful as these other men who tell you how good they are! Their trouble is that they are only comparing themselves with each other and measuring themselves against their own little ideas. What stupidity!

Almighty God, help us not to be drawn to the wisdom of the world

1 Corinthians 1:20-21

So where can you find someone truly wise, truly educated, truly intelligent in this day and age? Hasn’t God exposed it all as pretentious nonsense? Since the world in all its fancy wisdom never had a clue when it came to knowing God, God in His wisdom took delight in using what the world considered dumb—preaching, of all things!—to bring those who trust Him into the way of salvation.

Seek to understand

Deuteronomy 32:6-7

Don’t you realise it is God you are treating like this? This is crazy; don’t you have any sense of reverence? Isn’t this your Father who created you, who made you and gave you a place on earth? Read up on what happened before you were born; dig into the past, understand your roots. Ask your parents what it was like before you were born; ask the old-ones, they’ll tell you a thing or two.

Face your fears by facing up to God.

Ephesians 4:17

Let me say this, then, speaking for the Lord: Live no longer as the unsaved do, for they are blinded and confused. Their closed hearts are full of darkness; they are far away from the life of God because they have shut their minds against Him, and they cannot understand His ways.

It is not the presence of fear that is a problem, but our response to it: Our hearts harden in an unhealthy reaction to fear. #TrustInGod
