Those false prophets speak about matters of the world, and the world listens to them because they belong to the world. But we belong to God. Scripture says, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise. I will reject the intelligence of intelligent people.” The world with its wisdom was unable to recognize God in terms of His own wisdom. Do you think I was just trying to act heroic when I fought the wild beasts at Ephesus, hoping it wouldn’t be the end of me? Not on your life!
